P4 -7 Outdoor learning and literacy
P4-7 took their learning outside and explored the natural environment around us to gather woodland materials such as leaves, twigs and moss. Using these outdoor resources, the children designed and created their own wonderful woodland animals. The creativity and imagination on display were fantastic, with each animal showing unique details and careful thought.
Back in the classroom, we used our woodland creations as inspiration for descriptive writing. The children developed their very own setting descriptions, focusing on creating vivid imagery and bringing their scenes to life for the reader. We explored how writers use similes, metaphors, and personification to make descriptions more engaging and imaginative. Pupils also used the five senses to help readers picture, hear, smell, feel, and even taste the atmosphere of their woodland settings.
The pupils worked incredibly hard to improve their vocabulary choices and create powerful images in their writing. We are very proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity shown throughout these activities.
Well done, P4–P7!
